Music Industry Insights: In this episode, we chat with Alessandra D’Alesio, from Deezer. We spoke about her work with independent artists and the role Deezer had during the BLM movement as well as how the work directly with independent artists.

About Alessandra & Deezer

Alessandra is the Community Support Coordinator at Deezer. Her career started on the label side of the industry  and made the move to the music tech sector after her Master Degree at Westminster University. She also runs her own indie label, Depths Records, where she’s developing different bands. 

Deezer is a French online music streaming service. It allows users to listen to music content from record labels, including Universal Music Group, Sony Music and Warner Music Group on various devices online or offline. It is the first DSP to start testing a user-centric payment system.

Are indie artists taking advantage of the digital opportunities?

We spoke with Alessandra about the existing opportunities in the digital landscape and how to support those artists for whom digital is not a strength. She also highlighted the role of Deezer in supporting independent music and their newly launched artist platform: Backstage

At the end of the chat, Alessandra offers her three top tips for musicians.

“My passion for music started at the age of 9 where I’d meet with my brother’s friends for listening sessions and exchanging albums. I’ve carried my interest for music ever since”
